We can now say ‘secure parking offered’ – we just had 2 sets of beams installed to protect the cars at night. The beams are activated at 11.30 at night which will help with another problem that we guest house owners have to contend with:

After more than 17 years in the business I have found it necessary to have the following notice made for every bedroom:

Yes, you guessed correctly: a man booked in as a single but I saw his ‘friend’ walk up the staircase at 11 pm at night. I spent the night tossing and turning about how I would approach the subject. What if he runs to Trip Advisor to accuse me of being rude – that’s what happened to me last year when I  requested a guest not  to use the coffee made for the breakfast  to fill her 1 liter coffee flask with coffee for the road, but to rather use the coffee and plunger that I provide in the rooms. But on the other hand – this is unacceptable behavior and should not be allowed to go unchecked.

The next morning I innocently asked him if his companion would be coming in for breakfast? He told me that she was just a friend who lived down the road and that he took her home again at  midnight. Which means that whoever ever wondered about ghosts at Fairview – yes, we have ghosts,  they walk around in the morning with high heeled shoes going clickety-clack.  But only twice  in 18 years and both times in the  rooms of gentlemen booked in as singles.
